Central Asian Textiles: The Neville Kingston Collection unveils a dazzling array of cloth, costume and ornament drawn from one of the finest private holdings of Central Asia, offering many previously unpublished pieces. The book journeys across nomadic steppe and settled valleys alike, presenting everything from richly embroidered boots and appliquéd hats to gleaming ikat hangings and exquisite furnishings—objects that once marked identity, ritual and social standing along the Silk Road.
Detail is king here: boots worked in metal thread, suzanis stitched by women for bridal trousseaux, hats felted and embroidered—all reproduced with stunning photographic care. More than a visual feast, the volume situates these textiles in their cultural, geographic and material contexts, revealing how fibre, dye, stitch and form intertwined with lives, seasons, journeys and trade.
